Abstract
The word-formation capacity of any language is of considerable significance, as it is directly correlated with the stability and expansion of that language. The present study investigates the word-formation capacity of common pronouns in Persian as one of the grammatical categories, with the aim of demonstrating their combinatory and derivational potential in the formation of Persian lexical items. To this end, compound and derivational words formed from common pronouns were extracted from Persian texts and selected dictionaries, and were subsequently organized and analyzed in accordance with the morphological rules of Persian. The findings indicate that although common pronouns belong to the closed lexical class, they make a noteworthy contribution to the generation of new words in nominal, adjectival, adverbial, and verbal constructions, with "xod" (self) exhibiting the highest frequency in nominalization. Furthermore, grammatical categories such as adjectives, compound verbs, and adverbs have also been formed with this pronoun. The pronoun "xiš" (own/self) ranks second after "xod," while word formations involving the pronoun "xištan" (oneself) are comparatively scarce
