Abstract

Saadi is a poet of the 13th century .His works are universal. His language in the ghazals, despite its apparent simplicity, carries hidden layers that one cannot fully grasp until those layers are uncovered. His artistic mastery in the structure of the ghazal, his use of allegory and allusion, the language of sensation and the language of the heart, along with his ability to estrange and defamiliarize language from the reader’s mind—stemming from his linguistic genius—has transformed concepts into art and brought delight to the audience through the meanings in his ghazals.
These aesthetic techniques can be observed in his choice of words, their arrangement, the musicality of speech, and the play of meanings. In his ghazals, Saadi, through techniques such as ellipsis, metaphor, ambiguity (iham), and others, achieves multi-layered meanings. Altogether, Saadi’s ghazals represent a fusion of emotion and thought, the use of eloquent language and novel imagery, and an attention to profound human concepts such as love, separation, and mysticism.
With his mastery of language, Saadi created enduring works in which beauty in both form and content coexist. Common themes in his ghazals are vividly portrayed, the result of his genius and intellectual depth.
This research, using analytical and descriptive methods, seeks to explain the linguistic features of Saadi’s ghazals, such as the language of allegory, restriction and exclusivity, ambiguity and multiple significations, ellipsis in both word and meaning, the language of sensation, and the language of the heart.
